The Life Behind the Work

Monette Massard is a writer, storyteller, author, and founder of Butterfly The Becoming, a body of work shaped by lived experience and a persistent curiosity about what it means to be human. Her perspective has been formed through corporate leadership, entrepreneurship, motherhood, advocacy, illness, reinvention, and the unexpected turns that rarely fit neatly into the lives we imagine for ourselves.

Butterfly The Becoming is where that curiosity becomes storytelling. It is a reflective storytelling platform and podcast built on honest reflection instead of instruction. No fixes. No formulas. Just clarity shaped by real life.

Her perspective comes from a life lived across many different worlds. Monette built a career of more than twenty-five years in corporate America, leading teams and solving problems that others had given up on. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Fairleigh Dickinson University, is a certified medical coder through AHIMA, is a Certified Public Speaker through Toastmasters, and has completed Cornell University’s Women’s Entrepreneurship Certificate along with Six Sigma training.

Her life beyond the professional world has been equally formative. A two-time breast cancer survivor, Monette’s treatment took an unexpected course when her body could not tolerate chemotherapy, and she continued her care with localized radiation. She became a mother at forty-four after twenty years of fertility treatments on and off. That experience later inspired her involvement with RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association and the creation of Moneli.

Entrepreneurship has also been a recurring thread throughout her life. Her ventures have crossed real estate, wellness, advocacy, and retail, each reflecting a different season of her interests and experience. She founded Cancer After the Diagnosis, served as CEO of 615 Holding, built a portfolio that included multifamily real estate, and owned Monette’s Boutique. Each of these chapters contributed to the perspective she now brings to her writing and storytelling.

Writing became another way of making sense of what she had lived. Her memoir, Butterfly Parallel Lives, explores reinvention, loss, and the unexpected directions a life can take. The book was later featured in LiveLiving magazine.

Today, Butterfly The Becoming is where these parts of her life meet. Through writing, storytelling, and conversation, Monette draws from lived experience to explore what we carry, what changes us, what we question, and what we sometimes understand only after we have lived through it. Her work is not built around telling people how to live. It creates space for reflection, recognition, and the clarity that can emerge when we look at our own lives more closely.
